The Skipjack Heritage Museum, website (Skipjack Heritage, Inc.) desperately needs your input in regards to the local history of some of our towns such as Wenoma, Rock Creek-Chance, Mount Vernon, Dames Quarter, Oriole and so on. We're still writing Deal Island's history as well, so please give us your stories, etc.

Anything you might be able to contribute including stories, documents, pictures (just copies are fine or we can copy for you) to give our "Local History" that first, second or third person experience.

Skipjack Heritage belongs to the community as much as any formal ownership documents where it is the people that give the Heritage, the museum its heart and soul We would not exist without the people; past or present. You will be given credit for anything you can unselfishly contribute and we are deeply in you debt. We are more than happy to edit, clean up any photos or documents you might have and provide you with a copy as well. No need to worry about format, penmanship, spelling or grammar as there is no grading. We will take care of anything of that on our end, so don't be bashful.

Here are some ideas..........?

- Good times, hard-difficult times, money was tight
- Holidays, weather (storms, ice, cold, bay-harbor froze over)
- School, growing up, play times.
- Who taught you the most and maybe what was it
- Cars; breaking down, buses, railroad, steamboats, bad roads
- Boats sinking-raising repairs, drownings-rescues, good/bad oyster-crab seasons
- Church, camp meetings
- Food, feeding the family; breakfast, lunch (or dinner), supper, snacks and sweets
- Women's social activities
- What did kids do during the summer on school break
- Local hangout, general stores......
- Leaving school to help the family
- Entertainment; music, TV, radio, school dances
- Dating, courting
- Births, marriages, deaths
- Preachers
- Shopping, where and what
- Trips..............
- How long did it take to go anywhere with the bad roads, flooding
- What was a normal day, week
- If you left the area did you go to college, trade school, did you move away................why did you leave

You can mail, email, tell one of our museum staffers-members where they will write down or record (like doing an oral history), drop-off anything at the museum, etc.

Please help us write your stories-history, the local histories of towns that are so enriched with recollections, narrations you might have. Let us continue to weave this quilt to share with others and generations that come after us. Make sure to share your name ( or you can be anonymous), town or area so we can include if we use it in the correct town.

We do not want to lose precious memories to time .
